There's always some kind of dispute on different fashion trends, so I am here to put my two cents in. These highly disagreed trends tend to be more high fashion ones or old trends that have returned. I have some strong opinions on these so get ready for some hot takes (don't be offended if my opinions are different than yours!!).
Skirts & Dresses Over Pants
These have gained similar attention to when low rise jeans were coming back, but the results have been a bit different. While low rise bottoms have come back stronger than ever, there seems to be a lot of split opinions about wearing skirts or dresses over pants. I personally love this trend and I think it adds a lot of new ways of styling. Layering is one the main ways people like to make an outfit more interesting and this trend helps increase the different ways to style a piece of clothing. It's a perfect mix between girly and sporty, giving it that effortlessly cool look. I also love it when people layer multiple skirts, adding even more textures. I will call you boring if you don't like this trend.
Cheetah & Leopard Print
What I've heard the most about cheetah and leopard prints are that they are tacky. But, I think it's all about how you style it - like it is with any other print. I first became interested in these prints again when Bella Venice released their Maxine Top. Ever since, I've fallen in love with the prints. They're such chic prints that can make any outfit more interesting and I think it's perfect for any event. It can be formal and casual, dressed up and dressed down. If you say you don't like these prints, you just don't know how to style them.
Skinny Jeans
You can probably tell by the pictures already, but it was quite difficult finding "aesthetic" pictures of people wearing skinny jeans. Who knows if my thoughts on these will change in a few months or whatever, but my honest opinion right now is that they are a no go. I think it's the worst combination if they are skinny and high waisted - literally the epitome of millennial fashion. Now when I say skinny jeans, I mean jeans that literally have no give; the ones with no flares at the bottom at all (don't confuse them with flared jeans or straight leg jeans). Not only are they incredibly uncomfortable-speaking from experience during middle school-they are quite unflattering unless you have a very specific body type. However, I do think some variation of skinny jeans are already coming back. For instance, I've been seeing some fashion forward people wear skinny capris. And that, I'm honestly here for. However, if I see you on the streets with skinny jeans on (that are not well styled) I'm going to assume you're a millennial or a mom (middle schoolers nowadays know better).
Mixing Silver & Gold
I love love love the idea of mixing gold and silver jewelry together. I've seen some girls on Tik Tok with them and I just love how they look together. It's so disappointing to see some negative comments about it though. I mean, just look at the moodboard above, it looks so natural and beautiful together!! I think the combination works best with jewelry of organic shapes that flow well together. It especially looks good when a lot of jewelry is worn so that the gold and silver tones kind of blend together rather than play separately. I think that's where a lot of people go wrong. For example, people tend to wear a gold necklace and bracelet with a few silver rings. This is going to make the jewelry look separated. Instead, you want to integrate the two tones together to create unique looks like the ones above.
Tiny Purses
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for unique bags like the Lirika Matoshi Teddy Bear Bag, the Coperni Glass Bag, the Jane Birkin Basket Bag, bags that look like plastic trash bags, and more. However, tiny bags that can literally fit little to nothing, I can't defend. I really don't think they add much to an outfit and functionality is not great either. Sure I would love to just get one to have it sit on my shelf, but I would certainly not get one for an outfit.
