My Fav Fashion Shows of This Season pt. 1

While I haven't been able to see every single fashion show, I have followed along closely enough and watched a few shows. With that being said, I definitely have some favorites. Not only are some of the looks absolutely breathtaking, the presentation of some of these shows have never been seen before and the brilliance and artistry that went into them are mind boggling. Fashion shows are a product of countless hours of work from the models, the designers, the ateliers, the choreographers, the sound crews, the hair and makeup artists, the backstage managers, the pr team, and many more people. I believe that fashion isn't just about clothes, but a way of expression, an art. As a fellow lover of fashion, I hope you are as excited about these shows and looks as I am!

Anna Sui FW23

Anna Sui's Fall/Winter 2023 Collection titled, "Peppermint Twist", was inspired by the iconic 60s discotheque, Peppermint Lounge. It's a vibrant reflection of 60s cuts and styles matched with animal hats, kitten heels, shiny fabric, and monochromatic outfits that were accentuated with texture and patterns. The overall color palette of pink and green goes great with Anna Sui's fun and funky aesthetic and the production itself was a chef's kiss. Now this, this is how you produce a runway.

Anrealage FW23

The entire Anrealage Fashion Show was centered around the use of ultraviolet lights. Kunihiko Morinaga started experimenting with photochromic textiles 10 years ago, and as technology advanced, he was finally able to incorporate it into a collection. The entire collection is made out of fabric that changed under ultraviolet lights. In the first photo, you can see a completely white look, but after the uv light passed by, it turned into a beautiful fuschia look. Not only did they use these fabrics for the clothes, but they also used it as hair. It's such a brilliant collection and I love seeing unique ideas on the runway.

Avavav FW23

I first encountered Avavav on Tik Tok in a video of runway garments falling apart. I was incredibly confused but later found out that garments were intentionally ripped apart and damaged as a reference to fast fashion. Models strutted down the runway in streetwear in elevated streetwear as different parts of their look deconstructed on the runway. It's such a brilliant way to make a runway more interesting and purposeful. It definitely got the attention of people and the set even fell down at the end as a final touch. (last photo)

Diesel FW23

Diesel shows never disappoint, and this season was definitely an extravaganza, in a sexy, messy, and effortless kind of way. The looks featured countless sheer components--in skirts, pants, and tops--, head to toe fits for mens, as well as over the top jackets all whilst maintaining the "four pillars of Diesel – denim, utility, pop and artisanal". In the back are piles and piles of Durex condoms that were up for grabs at the show. Glenn Martens, the Creative Director of Diesel is making the walk of shame an everyday look, so don't be ashamed of greasy hair, messy makeup, and crumpled clothes; it's totally in NOW.
